In the framework of the project SEE Security Platform , Minister of Defense of the Republic of North Macedonia, Radmila Sekerinska gave an interview on the topic of cooperative security in the region.

In conversation with the journalist Nazim Rashidi she talks about the security situation in the region and challenges and importance of cooperation, especially in the field of security. Southeast Europe Security Platform is a project organized by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Skopje in collaboration with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Dialogue Southeast Europe and thFES Regional Office for Cooperation and Peace in Europethat brings together progressives within the field of security to discuss current issues and future challenges.

With the accession of three Western Balkan states in NATO, the region’s security architecture has gradually shifted. Dealing with transnational organized crime, cybercrime, NATO’s 2%, but also global security policy debates around multilateralism call for new political responses, including answers from governing social democratic parties. While security plays a major role rhetorically, progressive parties should offer new ideas or future-oriented concepts for a social democratic foreign and security policy that relies on cooperation and democratization. European and global debates on security policy need to be anchored and discussed among progressive stakeholders in the region.
