On September 18, at Public Room, the panel discussion “Housing as a Basic Need, Not a Privilege” took place, where young people, experts, and candidates for Mayor of the City of Skopje discussed the challenges and opportunities for accessible housing.

The discussion highlighted the importance of housing as a fundamental human right and a prerequisite for stability, independence, and a dignified life. It was emphasized that young people in North Macedonia, on average, leave their parental homes at the age of 32, and more than 70% of those aged 25 to 29 still live with their parents due to high costs and limited opportunities for independent living.

The panelists agreed that addressing housing issues requires inclusive, sustainable, and fairly distributed local policies, as well as support from institutions, the private sector, and civil society organizations.

The event was an opportunity for young people to share their ideas and experiences, while the panelists proposed concrete solutions for accessible housing and a better living environment for youth in the city.

We thank all participants and panelists who contributed to this important discussion on housing for everyone.
