Public discussion "New Era, New Hope"

On April 2nd, a public discussion titled "New Era, New Hope" was held, where a new concept of economic leadership was discussed following the confrontation with the largest health, economic, and military shocks over the past few years, organized by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation - Skopje office.

Participating in this discussion were university professors Dragan Tevdovski, Vancho Uzunov, Gligor Bishev, Dragan Minovski, Academician and Rector of the University of Southeast Europe Abdulmenaf Bedjeti, Olympia Hristova-Zaevska from Elson Solutions, as well as the project coordinator at FES, Ivana Vuchkova.

The main message sent from the discussion is that it is necessary to strengthen the role of the state in the economy, and the transformation should be supported on several pillars - increasing public investments in renewable energy and other aspects of the green transition, increasing public investments in social protection, education, and health, implementing better agricultural policies, improving policies to attract foreign investment, and introducing more progressive taxes.

Regarding the question of what the European Union should do to support the region, it was emphasized that the EU needs to change its current approach to the region by taking the region much more seriously. This should be a combination of faster integration into the EU, greater involvement in solving regional political issues, as well as providing urgent and appropriate financial support.
